Durante il corso di specializzazione in Stile Dell'Autoveicolo, capitava di applicare la ricerca ad ogni tipo di mezzo di trasporto. Si indagava nell'anima storica ed estetica dei grandi marchi dell'automobile, per riversarla nella concezione di prodotti inediti.
In questo bozzetto di stile (utile esercizio di aerografo, pennarelli Pantone e matite acquerellabili su cartoncino Canson ruvido), immaginai come potesse apparire una moto nel contesto della filosofia Jaguar. Si tratta di un Marchio con una storia prestigiosa nelle corse, nelle quali non è mai mancata l'espressione dell'ingegneria attraverso armonia di forme. Per queste ragioni, pensai a una moto piccola e leggera, dalle spiccate doti dinamiche.
La particolare configurazione della ruota anteriore, e la conseguente impostazione del telaio, furono influenzati da due ispirazioni in voga a quei tempi: negli stessi anni, Bimota sviluppava il concetto "Tesi", caratterizzato dalla forcella orizzontale, e il progettista svizzero Franco Sbarro proponeva varie soluzioni costruttive per rendere funzionali le ruote senza mozzi.
Insomma, senza voler troppo prevedere quale efficienza potesse avere il mio concetto, volli presentare così una moto Jaguar, tentando la sintesi tra forme classiche e lo spirito di sperimentazione tecnologica, che aggiunge al progetto un linguaggio estetico provocatorio.
School memories - What if Jaguar manufactured motorbikes? (Year 2001)
During the degree course in Automotive Styling, we usually had to imagine different types of means of transport. The students had to "grab" the historical and esthetical soul of the great automobile brands then transferring it in unseen concepts.
This research sketch (combining aerograph, Pantone markers, watercolour pencils on rough Canson sheet) wants to imagine a new motorbyke in the philosophy of Jaguar. This Brand boasts a great success tradition in racing, always expressing the engineering solutions through harmony in design. That's why I had the idea of a small and light motorbike, with high performance on track.
The peculiar concept around front wheel, which influences the whole chassis structure, came as the inspiration by two experimental "trends" that have been developed along these years: the horizontal front-fork introduced by Bimota through the "Tesi" concept, and the "empty" wheels conceived by Swiss designer Franco Sbarro.
In the end, without thinking too much about the efficiency of my concept, this is the way I chose to introduce a Jaguar motorbike, as a result of classical shapes and the spirit of technological innovations, which embodies my motorbike of a new and challenging styling language.
